Passed on August 14, 2018 at age 83. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary T. “Terry”; daughter, Kathleen A. Mellody, son, Gregory P. (Trisha) Mellody. Predeceased by parents, Paul and Annamae Mellody of Scottsville. Col. Mellody was a graduate of Scottsville High School, and College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Upon graduation in 1956, he was commissioned in the USAF. After completing pilot training he served as a fighter pilot at bases in Niagara Falls, Omaha, Alaska, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. He then transitioned into the Strategic Air Command (SAC), and became a B52 instructor pilot and commanding officer of the 20th Bombardment Squadron at Carswell AFB, Texas. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam with 300 combat flying hours. He then served as Air Attache at the US Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands, and finally as Assistant Commandant of the Defense Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey, California. After retiring, he returned to Scottsville and served as Director of the Monroe County Veterans Service Agency until 1992. He spent the next 25 years in volunteer work for St. Peter’s Soup Kitchen, The VA Hospital in Batavia and with his wife, Terry at the SWEM Food Pantry, and Meals on Wheels.

There will be no prior calling hours. His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 10 AM at St. Martin de Porres Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 99 Main Street, Scottsville. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
