LeRoy ~ Samuel L. “Sonny” Zalacca, age 68, of South Street, passed away Friday morning (July 22, 2011) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Zalacca was born August 25, 1942 in Batavia, a son of the late Louis and Christine Falcone Zalacca.
Sonny was an avid bowler for many years, having earned recognition by the American Bowling Congress with induction into the Batavia Bowling Assoc. Hall of Fame. He was also recognized by the Paolo Busti Cultural Foundation of Genesee County as an outstanding Italian American in 2008. He also coached Little League baseball for many years and was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Korea during his service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Rosalyn Antinore Zalacca, his son, Louis (Jami) Zalacca of Houston, TX and expected grandson, Reese Samuel Zalacca, and his son, Michael Zalacca of LeRoy, a brother, James Zalacca of Potsdam, NY, a sister, Marie Swirsky of NJ, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 ~ 8 at the Cameron, Brady and Steuber Funeral Home, 111 Wolcott Street (Rt 19 south), LeRoy. His mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish (St. Joseph’s Oratory site).
