Obituary for Dorothy E. Ely (Hendricks)

Dorothy E. Ely (Hendricks)
Ely, Dorothy E.
(Hendrickson)
Scottsville: On April 12, 2014 at age 85. Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, James W. Ely; her parents, Anson and Elizabeth Hendrickson and her 6 brothers. She is survived by her children, Thomas (Sharon) Ely, Mary (Mark) Fiscella and James Ely; grandchildren, Ronnie and Eric (Jennifer) Ely, Chase, Dane, Tessa, and Bryson Fiscella, Brian (Sara) Ely, and Steven (Stephanie) Ely; and 5 great-grandchildren. Dorothy also leaves behind her best friend, Sylvia Lees.
Dorothy attended the University of Buffalo, School of Pharmacology. She lived most of her life in Scottsville, where she volunteered as an EMT for may years with the Scottsville Volunteer Ambulance. Dorothy was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, associated with the Scottsville Fire Dept.
Our mother’s first love was her husband Jim, and next came her love for her children and family. Mom was always optimistic and two of her famous sayings were, “This too shall pass” and “lt always could be worse”. Mom was a great listener, very giving and loving. Her apple pies, apple crisps, and shrimp salads were legendary. We will never forget her and she will always remain in our hearts.
A special thank you to Doctor Dahake for the wonderful care she and her staff gave to our mother and for their respecting our mother’s end of life choices. For the past three years, Dorothy lived in the Fairport Baptist Home Assisted Living Community and recently their long term care facility. She received excellent care and most important....she was loved by the staff. This facility was a wonderful place for Mom to spend the end of her life. A special thank you to Mary DuQuette, Mary M., Tamara, Gloria, Jodi, Claude, Jackie, Amber, Roxanne, and our beloved Monica and so many more. Thank you for the caring you demonstrated, the laughter you gave her, and her dignity that you never compromised; we are very grateful.
Family may call Tuesday, 4-7 at the J.H. Cameron Funeral Home, 26 Rochester St., Scottsville. Her Funeral Mass will be held Wedensday, 10 AM at St. Mary’s Assumption Church, Scottsville. Interment, Holy Angels Cemetery, Scottsville. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Fairport Baptist Homes Caring Ministries (FBHCM Foundation), 4646 Nine Mile Point Road, Fairport, New York 14450, or to the Scottsville Fire Department, 385 Scottsville Mumford Road, Scottsville, NY 14546.
Mom... you were the best!!
