Obituary for Robert E. Jones

Robert E. Jones, DVM, and native of LeRoy, NY, died at home surrounded by family on January 8, 2022. He was 88 years old. Born in Batavia, NY, on May 7, 1933, Bob was a graduate of LeRoy High School. Upon graduation, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was proud of his service in the Korean War. Following his time in the service, he attended Alfred University, then Cornell University, where he earned his degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

Bob practiced Veterinary Medicine in the Genesee Valley for more than 35 years. He was actively involved in a variety of Veterinary Medical Associations throughout his career. He served as a member of the LeRoy Central School Board, and was active in the LeRoy Jaycees, and the Rotary Club, where he was a past-President of the LeRoy Rotary Club, and actively served in a number of offices with the Jupiter-Tequesta Rotary Club in Florida. He was an active member of the former St. Peter’s Catholic Church in LeRoy, where he was a founding member of the folk group.

Bob split his retirement years between Hobe Sound, FL and Conesus Lake, NY. In Florida, he was an active member of the parish at St. Christopher’s Church where he sang in the choir. He also spent considerable time raising money and serving on the board of directors for the Guatemalan Tomorrow Fund to help children in Guatemala. Aside from his passion for healing animals, he was an accomplished carpenter, and later in life applied his skills in helping to restore the LeRoy House for The LeRoy Historical Society. He was a member of Lost Lakes Country Club where he enjoyed his rounds with his fellow Duffers.

He was a man of great faith, perseverance, keen intellect, and broad musical inclination. He loved to learn.

Predeceased by wife of 27 years, Katherine (nee Hutchinson) and wife of 30 years, Suzanne (nee Scanlan), sons Daniel and Andrew. He is survived by his brother Bill (Sandra) of LeRoy, daughter, Karen (Mark) of Rochester, NY; sons Douglas (Pamela) of Boynton Beach, FL, Rick (Mercedes) of San Salvador, El Salvador; stepson, John Scanlan Jr. (Mary Margaret) of Bergen, NY; grandchildren Katie Harris, Nic Harris (Rachel), Lara D’Lando (Louis), Andrew Jones (Brittany), Rene Armondo Ramos, Diego Jones, David Navidad Ramos, Mirna Guadelupe Herrera Ramos, John Scanlan III (Jessie), Beth Vella (Scanlan), Timothy Scanlan, and Thomas Scanlan, and the many great grandchildren from whom he got so much joy, and a host of dear nieces and nephews.

Family and Friends are invited to attend Bob's Memorial Mass will be held 11 AM, Saturday, June 25, 2022. in LeRoy at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church , 44 Lake Lake St. LeRoy. Private Interment St. Francis Cemetery
